Gallery of Photographs from the John Muir Trail - Sierra Nevada Mountains, California.

JMTp1.1.jpg

Day 1 - Nevada Falls on the route up from Yosemite. Lives are lost each year when tourists ignore the signs and go swimming in the pools at the top of the falls only to be swept over them.

JMTp1.2.jpg

Day 1 - Views across the valley on the route up to Sunrise High Sierra Camp.

JMTp1.3.jpg

Day 1 - Located high in the mountains - this is Long Meadows, home to High Sierra Camp.

JMTp1.jpg

Day 2 - Looking across to Cathedral Peak.

 JMTp2.jpg

Day 2 - Passing a mule train during the descent to Tuolumne Meadows. There are companies that will take your gear along the trail, guide you, set up your camps and cook your food. The only way they can transport gear along the trail is by mule, as there are no road routes into the Wilderness areas.

JMTp3.jpg

Day 2 - Lyell Canyon provides a nice gentle couple of hours walking by the creek (river to you and me).

JMTp3.1.jpg

Day 3 - The first Pass on the route - Donohue - this is typical of the snowfields encountered on the route and traversing it was a relatively straightforward affair, of course the amount of snow varies from year to year.

JMTp3.2.jpg

Day 3 - The approach to Island Pass is gradual and interspersed with idealic scenes!

JMTp4.jpg

Day 3 - Island Pass - looking onward to Banner Peak, above Thousand Island lake.
JMTp45.jpg
Day 3 - Rock formations on the route from Thousand Island Lake to Garnet Lake.

JMTp17.jpg

Day 9 - The other side of Muir Pass.

JMTp18.jpg

Day 9 - The Sun disappears during the final approach to the wooded valley containing Le Conte Canyon.

JMTp19.jpg

Day 10 - This photo is useless to represent the view over Mather Pass - which took my breath away.

JMTp20.jpg

Day 10 - The upper basin South of Mather Pass.

JMTp21.jpg

Day 11 - Fin Dome seen from the approach to Dollar Lake

JMTp22.jpg

Day 11 - Camping spot at Rae Lakes

JMTp23.jpg

JMTp23.jpg

Day 12 - The shapely cone of East Vidette on the approach to Vidette Meadow, the route continues to the valley floor near to the base of this peak, the next waypoint is Forresters Pass which is higher than the peak itself!

JMTp25.jpg
