Granite Gear Virga Rucksack
This is the pack for the person who lives and breathes ultralight. You've spent a considerable length of time getting your gear weight down to 20 pounds. Now the good news - your ideal pack is here, 52 litres weighing just 550g!
The nylon shell gains support and rigidity from your sleeping pad - simply drop in a rolled pad and let it uncoil to push against the bag, and pack your gear inside the roll. The Virga has fixed nicely padded shoulder straps and a 1.5" webbing hip belt.
Our Verdict
This is superlight, other 50 litre lightweight packs weigh considerably more than this one, typically 8-900g, so if you're packing ultralight gear but need space for food and water for extended trips, then this is the pack for you.
I used one this summer, instead of a closed cell matress which Granite Gear recommends I used a short self inflating mat, half inflated, folded lengthways then in half again laid against the back of the sack. Packing was easy onto this and the back panel was extremely comfortable.
