Granite Gear Air Pocket
These ultralight pockets are the perfect solution for stowing books, maps field guides, toiletries, etc. They can easily be lashed to the side compression straps of any pack or used as organizers inside.
Fitted with water resistant YKK zips - the zip is coated wwith a waterproof tape to keep water from wicking into the sack. The teeth are turned to the inside of the sack to protect them from the elements. They're not completely waterproof, but they keep out almost all moisture.
Cordura Sil-Nylon Body - Up until now Cordura was only available in the familiar 500 dernier or 1000 dernier. Dupont recently changed that and is now using their proprietary High Tenacity nylon yarns in many innovative new ways. High Tenacity yarns are stretched as they are made, making them much stronger than regular nylon. Granite Gear worked closely with Dupont to develop this fabric for the Air-Line series of ultralight packing systems. The result is a 1.1oz Sil-Nylon ripstop fabric with the strength of a much heavier fabric.
Our Verdict
Superlight solution to packing of paper items, vastly superior to pvc solutions in terms of weight. The 'Medium' Air Pocket is just the right size to take a folded OS map, this can then be attached to webbing or a hip belt. Although the map needs to be removed for reading this offers a lightweight alternative to a traditional 'heavy duty' mapcase allowing the map to be kept to hand.
Packaged in a screw top container that can be used to transport other items such as spices, salt etc..
