Our Verdict
Superb if you can get away with it - and many do, the Poncho tarp is one of our best sellers. When pitched the tarp provides some protection from the elements so ideal to use with a bivy - or perhaps without a bivy in areas where rain isn't expected.
Ponchos make ideal lightweight waterproof protection, they aren't breathable but they are open at the bottom. Can become difficult if the wind gets up - a belt is a useful addition.

An extremely strong, lightweight waterproof nylon ripstop fabric used in GoLite Shelters and Tents. The nylon fibers are impregnated with Silicone, which allows the fabric to stretch without separating or breaking. SilLite™ fabrics are far lighter than conventional tent fabrics, but also far stronger.
