GoLite Malpais Trinity 3L Jacket |

The ultimate gram counting storm shell for the outdoor athlete that lives on the trail and expects all-around performance in any downpour for the least amount of weight possible.
Our Verdict
This jacket is constructed to be one of the lightest waterproof breathable shells around - at 200 grams that sounds like magic! It isn't - so lets get a few of the compromises out of the way - the hood is simple with little adjustment and the hood drawcord fasteners are nothing more than a piece of shaped foam - fiddly! And, being from the US, the zipper fastens from the other side than you're used to.
Get over these little niggles and you have a jacket thats hard to beat in terms of performance for this weight. The hydrostatic head of the fabric (a measure of its waterproofness) is brilliant at 17,000mm and there's nothing that comes close at that weight - the breathability of the fabric is decent as well.
The three zips are the water resistant type and the cuff closes effectively with velcro microdots and the jacket even has a drawcord hem. It will be compared to Montane's Minimus jacket - the key difference being the Malpais has the traditional two pockets versus the Minimus with only one chest pocket.
