A fully-featured 2.5-layer shell designed to keep you protected all day long in the most inclement weather.

Pertex Shield DS combines technically advanced face fabric with a proprietry bi-compnent polyurethane coating technology specifically engineered for unlined garments.   The coating is a precisely controlled combination of microporous, hydrophobic and hydrophilic polyurethane polymers that provides an optimum balance of waterproofness, breathability and light weight.   Pertex Shield DS allows garments to be built lighter and softer without a lining to reduce weight and packsize.

Our Verdict

Pertex Shield is a great fabric and the Kenai jacket is very well designed, it has a good hood with a 'round the head' cinch cord that means the hood moves with your head and the front zipper has a both an outer and inner flap which is preferred by many to a simple water resistant zip. 

Then there's the side pockets which do have water resistant zips - but also have outer flaps to provide greater protection. Finally this jacket features pit zips - if you've never had a jacket with these they are excellent when it showery but you need to ventilate because you're working hard.

The hand pockets are set low on the jacket so they can't be used if you are wearing a rucksack hipbelt. There is a single chest pocket which is a reasonable size - but not big enough for a map.

In summary: an excellent lightweight jacket using a proven fabric at a good price.
