Our Verdict

At 382g the Ashdown Pro Shell jacket is not much lighter than jackets made with inferior fabrics in terms of their waterproofness and breathability. The pockets are pretty good with Pro Shell interior fabric - set high on the jacket to avoid a rucksack hipbelt. The Ashdown also has pit zips which are ideal for venting the garment between showers or even during a rain shower if its not too heavy.

The zip is backed by a rain channel and the hood can be adjusted to 'grab' the head of the wearer ro that it moves with you. There's a cord adjustment around the face of the hood but no wire in the peak.
