The Nemo Eclipse All-Season Regular Sleeping Mat offers a strong balance of comfort, warmth and packability that makes it a genuine one-stop option for year-round UK camping. The low weight, paired with such a high R value, makes it suitable for long-distance, multiday walking and winter summit camps. Around 10cm of cushioning provides excellent pressure relief, especially for side sleepers, while the contoured baffle design helps keep you centred through the night.
The valve system is simple and effective, allowing quick inflation, easy micro adjustments and fast deflation when packing away. The included Vortex pump sack stands out as one of the best available, making setup straightforward while reducing moisture entering the mat. The Eclipse doesn't crinkle at all like older mats, though it can squeak slightly against some tent floors. ASTM R-Value:
From 2020, there is a new industry standard for measuring the R-value (level of insulation) of sleeping mats – ASTM F3340-18. This new standard is the sleeping mat equivalent to the EN rating for sleeping bags.
You can now directly compare the R-value of mats rated using the ASTM F3340-18 with confidence that is a fair and accurate comparison between mats. In simple terms, the higher the R-value, the warmer the mat.
In general terms, an R-value below 2.0 is for summer use, 2.0 to 4.0 is for cooler 3 season use and 4.0+ is for winter temperatures.
