DOWN INSULATION

Rab started making down products 30 years ago and over that time we have cemented our position at the pinnacle of down product design and manufacturing.

We have worked closely with fabric and fill providers to create a technologically advanced range of down insulated product.

We now use a range of down quality fills along with a range of Pertex branded fabrics to provide an insulated product to suit all users and conditions.

SYNTHETIC INSULATION

Synthetic-filled insulation is made using poly-fibres. These fibres do the same job as natural down feathers - they retain heat. Although heavier, products made with synthetic fibres are more water resistant and are able to retain heat even when wet. Rab use Primaloft® branded insulation throughout the synthetic insulation range and marry these with Pertex® outer fabrics to provide a range of lightweight and durable insulation options.

WATERPROOF SHELL

Rab Waterproof Jackets are designed for the most extreme conditions in the World and have been tried, tested and proven in the harshest terrains and conditions.

Rab use eVent waterproof fabrics that offer fantastic waterproof protection and incredible breathability.

Rab also use Pertex Shield fabrics that offer very lightweight waterproof protection, ideal for alpine climbers, runners basically anyone who needs super lightweight and packable protection from the elements.

Rab waterproof jackets are feature packed dependent on their intended usage.

Water-resistant zips are used throughout - storm flaps are used to add extra protection behind these. Adjustable hoods are used throughout, pockets are well placed to be usable with harnesses or rucksacks, and all Rab waterproofs feature drawcord hem adjustment.

eVent FABRIC

Most common waterproof/breathable technologies do not literally "breathe". Instead they move sweat in two slow steps by a process of diffusion through a Polyurethane (PU) layer. First sweat is condensed and absorbed into the PU layer on the inside of the fabric. Because PU absorbs and retains sweat, the inside of the fabric becomes wet. Then, body heat begins to push that dampness through to the outside of the fabric where it can finally evaporate - a very inefficient process.

eVent® fabrics get their unique properties from a proprietary and patented waterproof membrane. Its unique composition allows millions of tiny pores to breathe at their full potential. Sweat vents directly to the outside of the fabric in one easy step. We call this Direct Venting™ Technology. Its genius is hidden in its simplicity. eVent fabrics simply let the sweat out.™

All eVent® fabrics protect you from the wind, and all are designed to add another level of fabric protection from the elements - without compromising comfort and breathability through the unique Direct Venting™ Technology.

But how can we measure 'breathability'? eVent fabrics feature exceptionally low "Water Vapor Resistance" (RET) and the "Moisture Vapor Transmission Rates" (MVTR) are very high in laboratory tests. But, do you run or climb in the lab? Where it really matters is out there in the Mountains. Out there it's a black and white world: you're either wet or dry. It's that simple!

PERTEX FABRIC

The Pertex Shield concept is a fusion of a technically advanced face fabric technology (that’s the bit you see and touch) combined with a  waterproof, breathable laminate and coating technologies.

Pertex Shield provides the perfect balance of waterproofness, breathability, wind and water repellency with flexibility and a lightweight construction.

Pertex Shield is the perfect material to create highly functional garments, which protect the wearer from the elements; be it for adventure racing, alpine climbing, mountain biking, running or walking your favourite trail.

The fabric combines technically advanced face fabric technology with a proprietary polyurethane film laminate.

It balances the best performance in breathability, waterproofness and water repellency with excellent durability. The hydrophilic nature of the polyurethane film reduces internal condensation and increases comfort range, by reducing the chilling effects caused by converting condensation build up back into water vapour

SLEEPING BAGS

For 2011 the Rab sleeping bags collection is better than ever before. Scientifically researched, technically designed and using the best materials available, the 2011 sleeping bags are our best yet.

Working closely with researchers at Leeds University we've had our 'eureka moment'. After lots of hard work and by adopting a scientific approach we have uncovered the 'golden ratio' when it comes to perfect sleeping bag construction. We have designed and developed a groundbreaking range of bags by taking into account, chamber size, differential cut, lofting ability and reams of technical data. All our bags are tested to the EN13537 standard.

Rab use only the highest quality European down. We use US fill power ratings to indicate the down quality (or lofting ability) because it is more commonly understood around the world than the EU system. US fill power ratings are also used by most of our competitor brands and this allows you to more accurately compare our products with others on the market.

NEUTRINO

The Neutrino range of bags are designed for lightweight use - for backpacking, cycle touring, and for fast and light mountaineering.The bags use new lighter Pertex® Quantum fabric and high quality Fill power US800 90/10 Goose Down.

The Neutrino 600 and 400 bags have 3/4 length YKK 5 coil main zips whilst the minimalist Neutrino 200 bag has a 1/2 Length YKK 5 coil main zip and a 100 gsm Primaloft® One synthetic draft tube on Neutrino 200. ALPINE

The Alpine range of sleeping bags is designed for lightweight mountaineering. The very light bags and the water resistant outer fabrics also make these bags ideal for year round use in UK conditions.

Pertex® Endurance outer fabric is watr resistant and ideal for emergency bivis.

New lighter Pertex® Quantum inner fabric is comfortable and very breathable and Pertex® Endurance fabric panels in the internal hood and collar add protection and durability.

The Alpine bags use Fill power US800 90/10 goose down for exceptional warmth to weight ratios.

The mummy taper shape is the most thermally efficient and also saves weight due to a lack of excess fabric.

Alpine 600 and Alpine 400have a 3/4 length YKK 5 coil main zip and the Alpine 200 has a 1/2 length YKK 5 coil main zip and a 100 gsm Primaloft® One synthetic draft tube.

All the Alpine bags are supplied with Dry bag compression stuff sac and a handy cotton storage/carry sac

The Alpine bags are also hand filled in our factory in Derbyshire UK by our elite team of eager down fillers.

SOFTSHELL

Rab® softshells are designed to fill the gap between traditional fleece and waterproofs.

The Softshell range includes exclusive rab technologies - including Fusion and Vapour-rise.
